Computer Adaptive Testing

On January 1, 2007 all written testing for First Responders and EMT-Basics has been done through the use of computer adaptive testing at approved testing sites..

As of July 3,2007  247 candidates from Maine have taken the test with 150 passing the exam (61% pass rate). In the Tri-County Region, 31 candidates have taken the exam and 21 have passed (68% pass rate).

Not all students completing an EMT-Basic course have registered or taken the exam. This will be an interesting number to look at come year end, as it is reflective of the number of people trained by our system but not  actually working within the EMS system.

The authorized testing sites are in Augusta, Portland, and Bangor. The cost of the written exam is $65.00 for First Responder and $70.00 for EMT-B.

More information about computer adaptive testing is available at the following link.
